School Behavior Expectations: We teach students that they need to be respectful, responsible, productive, and safe at all times, so that our school is a fun and happy place that all students can learn. This is based on the PBIS program that is implemented throughout the school and our district. These are the four expectations ("be" statements) that all students should behold throughout our buildings and hopefully outside the classroom. Hours and transportation: School begins at 7:30 and ends at 2:20 every day. It is important that your child arrives by 7:20
Snack: Students are encouraged to eat a healthy snack when they are hungry, to boost their energy. Types of acceptable snacks are: fruits, vegetables, cheese, popcorn, baked chips, and baked crackers. Your child can also bring a bottle of water. Due to the carpet we have in our room, juice or milk are not allowed because they are difficult to clean. * We have peanut and tree nut allergies in our class, so please no nuts. Lunch/Recess: After eating, all school students going outside to play in the playground. Your child needs to wear clothing that is appropriate for the time (jackets, gloves, boots, etc.). If rain, students will be in the grade level pods watching a movie, playing games, or reading a book. Morning Meetings Holding Morning Meetings every day provides consistent opportunities for all students to build community in the classroom, gain a sense of belonging, build trust, and set a positive tone for learning. We go over classroom rules, greet one another read the Precept of the Week, share, and build relationships in group discussion. Special Classes: In addition to our curriculum, your child will go to classes in physical education, art, music, and the library. Gym: your child will have gym five days a week. To be safe in the gym, your child needs to bring athletic shoes. LRC: your child can bring home a library book and go to library one day a week. Art, Music, and Digital Literacy: Students will go to each of these special classes once a week. Grading: Grades may be different from typical what you are used to. Students will be receiving a 1-5 on “graded” assignments or written comments on non-graded assignments that will help guide towards doing well on graded assignments. On the report cards these 1-5 will appear for topics in each subject and then a final grade with A-F will be attached to the subject (Math, Reading, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies). More information will be coming out later. 5-1 Grading 5: The student has exceeded the standard above grade level 4: The student has met the standard at grade level 3: The student has met the standard with little help 2: The student has met the standard with a lot of help 1: The student has not met the standard Homework: Students are expected to read 20 minutes a night. For math, they are able to make up assignments they have not finished in class. They may also work on Side Quests extension activities for extra experience points in math. Please see the "Side Quest" tab for this weeks Side Quests. Friday Notes: A Friday note will be sent home each week. This will review the standards we have studied during the week, give updates on student behavior, and cover any assignments missed. |
